DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants Dental implants are small metallic screws or cylinders . They are usually made of pure titanium or its alloy. It was a chance finding that if such metal was gently inserted into bone, it became firmly fixed. This fusion , or more correctly called osseointegration, was more likely if the metal was not disturbed for a few months . These rods can then be used as foundation for a false tooth or support for a denture. Different companies produce different shapes and designs of these cylinders The implant system recommended by me is the: Bicon for the back teeth and Ankylos for the front teeth .
Dental implants replacing the upper incisors Why Dental Implants? Dental Implants can be used to replace missing teeth or to stabilize dentures . Other alternative methods of treatment are dentures and bridges . Dentures Dentures are false teeth attached to a plastic or metal plate .They may be difficult to keep in place ,They can harm other teeth or the adjacent gum. They are best removed at night for better health of the mouth .
Bridges . These are usually prepared by roughening or grinding or drilling the adjacent reliable teeth and using them as support for the false teeth .They may need replacement every 10 to 15 years. Dental mplant s A dental implant however behaves similar to the root of a tooth,.It sits in the bone and is supported by the bone . If successful , it is expected to last as long as a natural tooth .It feels secure and improves ability to chew. If you are missing or failing teeth , consider a dental implant. Discuss it with your dentist. You will be given the various options available . Occasionally a dental bridge may suit you better.Sometimes, if the foundation is good, the crown can be inserted soon after the surgery. Most cases however the procedure is long and if initial bone grafting is required, it can take a year before the final crown is inserted. Please note, I now only place dental implants and do bone grafting for the aesthetic zone. That is for the visible front of the mouth. |
